THE HISTORY OF THE VILLAGE INSTITUTE
Our Story
The Village Institute for Psychotherapy was first established in 1994 in NYC’s West Village. We believe that therapy, when it is active, collaborative and deep, can be life-changing.
Founded by Dr. Frederick Woolverton, PhD, TVI was an early adopter of the outpatient group practice model in New York, assembling a dynamic team of clinicians with an assertive mission: to bring about a renaissance in people’s lives by creating lasting change. By 2004, the Institute had grown to a staff of 10 psychotherapists and over 200 patients. TVI also became an APA accredited training facility in 2009 and continues to launch dozens of well-trained psychotherapists into the community.
